Saidi Stick (Tahtib)

About

Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced. Workload: Medium. Suggested duration: 2 weeks. If you follow our suggested duration of four weeks, get ready to invest about 1-2 hour per week in your training. But remember, you can always go through this intensive at your own pace. Four weeks is just a suggested structure. Get to work on intricate tricks with a Saidi stick (Tahtib). Tahtib is a tool used in an ancient Egyptian martial art focused on stick fighting. Today, elements of this fighting are incorporated in male Saidi dance style, and women started borrowing ideas from this tradition to add to their performances. In this program we will learn 4 combos of different complexity: two combinations from Veronika, and two of mine. As I've mentioned, this intensive was created in collaboration with Veronika Shulkevich. I took classes with her as a part of my own training and growth, but afterwards she kindly agreed to record and share part of that training with the members of the Iana Dance Club.
